How to begin understanding your God-dreams
There are a few key elements I believe are vital to understanding your God-dreams, God's way. These basic principles should accompany your desire to receiving insight from God as to the purpose of your dreams. Our minds must be fixed on God to hear God and I would suggest you make them a fundamental part of your spiritual journey. Dependency on God will help you from misinterpreting your God-dreams.
PRAY — It’s not a cliché. If you want to know God, His plans for you, what your dreams mean, you, be a believer who prays.
Ask God to fill you with peace and dreams while you sleep in the night.
When you awake with a God-dream, begin praying and asking God for insight and revelation. What does it mean? What do I do with it?
Pray for someone to come into your life who has the spiritual gift to interpret dreams. If you don’t know anyone, do like I did, pray and ask God to teach you how to interpret dreams.
READ AND KNOW THE BIBLE — How many times do we have to hear, “read your Bible and pray,” before we actually do it? If you are a believer, you read the Word. God’s Word is living and it leads to Truth. God’s Word will always confirm what He is speaking to you, not only in the day, but in the night.
If I reference a verse, take time to read it. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Did you read it or did you skip it? God has shown me to pay less attention to the words of bloggers and other books than God’s perfect Word. Pray and ask God to give you a love for the Word and make my words, and others, secondary to Biblical Truths.
When you know the Word, you don’t have to guess what God is saying. You can know with certainty. This is especially true and of utmost importance when trying to discover the hidden secrets of God from your dreams in the night.
RECORD YOUR DREAMS — I’ve had a lot of dreams where the tiniest of details had the greatest meaning and purpose. I use the audio recorder app on my phone. If I wake up in the middle of the night from a dream, I grab my phone and record it. When I have time, I type them into an e-document. I’m amazed how many details in a dream I would have missed had I not recorded them.
Keep a dream journal (paper or e-folders). Find what works for you. In the coming weeks I will post some tips that I find when journaling.
Remembering details are often prayer strategies.
Recording our dreams helps us to remember that God is trying to get our attention. If God spoke to you through a dream, don’t take a chance you will forget it in a few days, weeks, or months.
The first two are basic principles for all Christians to hear and know God. If you want God to speak to you through dreams and visions, you must learn not to neglect time in prayer and reading the Bible. God will give insight, revelation, and wisdom when we take time to know and be with Him.
The third is the most useful tool I’ve found to keep my dreams before me while I wait for God to reveal their purpose. Several times in the Bible, God instructed people to remember and record what He has and is doing. "Write plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others” Habakkuk 2:2
Wait patiently for God to orchestrate the purpose of the dream. Don't push to make your dream fit in to some area in your life. At the proper time, God will make all things known. Trust Him and move when He says to move.
