Fishers of Men Dream
Nancy Griffith
Bangalore, India
Scene one: I saw a beggar on the street who was dressed in shabby, worn out, dirty clothes.
Scene two: Next thing I know I'm home and I think I see my husband and sister talking to me.
Suddenly I see living creatures crawling onto my legs and then underneath my skin. I start pulling them out. When I did, there were insects and slimy fish. There were approximately 25 to 30 black bugs. (The insects reminded me of the scarabs from the movie The Mummy that entered the person's body and the individual died.) The fish were slimy, gray, green, and black with big mouths. I recognized them from signs on a sun in Japanese culture. I killed a lot of them.
I was able to quickly pull out the insects that were embedded under my skin below my knee and down to my feet, but there were some still crawling towards my upper thigh. Before reaching further, I grabbed all of them and threw them onto the floor.
After plucking out the fish and the bugs, I noticed there was no residue of scarring on my body as there would normally be with a bite or sting, nor was there any bleeding or blood. My skin was completely clear.
I could see the shocked and scared look on the faces of my sister and husband.
When I extracted the last creature underneath my skin, and “trampled” on it, I felt I had won something. I was happy.
End of dream.
Dream interpretation:
Beggar: Symbolic for the spiritual state of man - in desperate need of the bread of life, the living water of Jesus Christ. Someone needs to come alongside of him and give him “clothes of righteousness.”
“Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35
“I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed for his wedding or a bride with her jewels.” Isaiah 61:10
First scene in the dream: Most important mission we have been given from Christ.
Spiders and fish: Two in the Bible can represent unity or division. The insects and the fish are trying to create division and harm in her life, spiritually and physically. “So that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2:11 “so that Satan will not outsmart us…”
“I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.” I Corinthians 1:10
Spiders: In general, spiders are pests. They are tenacious and can cause great harm and death. The devil, our greatest enemy will try to do the same.
Fish: In the Bible, fish are symbolic for “fishers of men.” In this dream, the fish reveal a personal, spiritual attack against Nancy’s work for the Lord to “fish for souls.” The dark colors of the fish reinforce this was an attack from the enemy. Matthew 4:19
Color of fish and big mouth: A picture to be mindful who she aligns herself with, especially in ministry. It could be a warning who may come into her life, i.e., those with impure hearts, actions filled with lies, deceit, and/or those who might cause conflict and confusion, especially within the church.
Legs: Beware of those who try to infest (or meddle) their way into your life. There will also be people who will “get under your skin.” Don’t let them become a stronghold in your life. The enemy will try every tactic to weaken your walk to keep you from reaching the “beggars.”
This is represented by some of the insects that continued to crawl up her leg. Some “bugs” can be swatted away easily, but some, when ignored, can cause great harm and destruction. Pray for wisdom to know when to deal with a situation and when to run. Flee temptation. Romans 12:4-5 and I Corinthians 12:27
No wounds: Beautiful picture of Christ’s blood cleansing us from all our sins and diseases. Isaiah 1:17-19 says,
“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool. If you will only obey me, you will have plenty to eat.”
“Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19
Five things the Lord impressed upon Nancy’s heart to begin praying after this dream:
Lord, thank you for this dream and for your wisdom and protection against the enemies schemes. You are King and Lord over my life. Thank you.
Lord, I don't understand what kind of warfare I am winning. I thank you for giving me a dream that will guide me to understanding and revelation.
Lord, give me discernment to see the attacks of the enemy. Keep the enemy away from me and me away from the enemy. No plague shall come near me or my family, in Jesus name.
Lord, thank you for my family and that they are alongside me. Whether it is family or friends, if there is unforgiveness in my heart, please make it known to me, Lord. 2 Corinthians 2:5-11 (It is important to have scripture support your dream. This section of scripture about forgiveness ends with “so that Satan won’t outsmart us.”)
Lord, by your grace, show me what these things are that you are giving me victory over? I praise you in advance for the victory.
In Jesus name, AMEN!
